I’m a blogger now.

It was bound to happen… I’m a blogger, what ever that is.

So, here goes - welcome to our new web site. After a lot of work by a lot of talented people we are excited to offer a new look to The Lady & Sons restaurant web site. As part of the new experience we are including this blog. I will be checking in every Monday with a new post. If you have anything to share or any questions, leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to talk about them here.

Thanks y’all and enjoy.

Hi Jamie,

My husband and I plan on coming down to Savannah next week and we would like for you to recommend where we should stay.

Also how do I get tickets for Paula’s Party showing.  I am sure it is too late now, but for future bookings, please tell me how to get tickets.

By Connie on June 10 2008

Hi Connie,

There are so many great places to stay downtown.  Take a look at savannahvisit.com you can get an idea of your options from there. We’ve had friends and family stay downtown in some of the beautiful Bed and Breakfasts we have here and they’ve always had a positive experience.

Paula’s Party tapes in New York now. It wasn’t fair to Uncle Bubba to close his restaurant for a week at a time and so Food Network was nice enough to offer their studio for mom to work in.

I’m pretty sure they’ve got the audience filled up for Paula’s Party right now, but you can take a look on mom’s site at http://www.pauladeen.com/tv to see what she’s got coming up

Hi Jamie,
I enjoy all of the shows that ya’ll do and have several books in my collection.  Ya’ll are awesome!  Keep up the great work!! Your Momma is the best and I just LOVE her...she reminds me a lot of my Momma.
We are traveling down to Savannah this coming weekend and would like to stop by The Lady and Sons. Is there a better time during the day to visit and have lunch and/or dinner?

Thank you for your time…

Sharon

Hi Jaimie,

I’m going to Charleston, SC next week, and will be taking a trip to Savannah....just to visit The Lady and Sons restaurant.  I saw the menu online, and everything looks just wonderful.  What would you recommend me to get?  (I live in Michigan and don’t know if I’ll ever be in Savannah again)

Hey Jamie,
My husband and I went to Savannah for my 30th birthday this past weekend. We had a wonderful time! Since I am a Paula Deen junkie, the highlight was having lunch at The Lady and Sons on my birthday and meeting your brother, Bobby. He was so nice to everyone! He was so patient...letting all of us crazies take pictures with him and signing stuff. He signed my Paula Deen koozie and let my husband take our picture. He needs many thanks for hanging out for so long and continuing to smile at everyone! And, of course, the lunch buffet was WONDERFUL!

By Susan Crews on June 11 2008

Hey y’all, who knew this was going to be so popular.

Sharon, be sure to get into town early.  This is the height of the season and we fill up quick.

Beth, that’s like asking someone which of their children is the prettiest. That being said, you can’t go wrong with the buffet, but we believe that everything on the menu is good or we wouldn’t have it there.

Jeannie, thanks for the kind comments. We have such an amazing group of folks at the restaurant from the cooks to the servers to the crew that bus the tables to our wonderful customers. We don’t see an opening very often.

Susan, Bobby is the best brother a guy could have.  I’m glad you had a good visit with us.

By Jamie on June 11 2008

Jamie,
We are die hard fans of you, your brother and it goes without saying your amazing mom.  We are coming into town on the 21st of June and are looking forward to seeing you.  We’ve been before but we are bringing my daughter and her family.  She is the cook in the family and is so looking forward to going to the restaurant.  Does the restaurant have problems with large groups (7 of us) this time of year?  We plan to be in line early so we can get a great meal.
See you there!

By Rob on June 11 2008

Hi Jamie! We are planning to visit Savannah around July 1st. What kind of menu is on the buffet?  Also, any sites that you would recommend me taking my 62 yr old father to?  Would appreciate any recommendations.

By Cassandra on June 11 2008

K don’t laugh at my email addy. My Darling husband calls me that. Anyway...Augusta Ga girl here and am watching..as we speak an old episode of some of “Moms” first shows. By the way...I LOVE HER she reminds me of my beloved (passed) mom so much. Oh and my mom loved her too.
Anyway on this episode she your mom is talking about your grandmothers and she said she that one day she wanted to be woman of substance. I was just wondering if “MOM” thinks she has reached that goal. I know in my eyes she has. MUCH LOVE, Doodles

Hey there,
We caught ya’ll’s show in Atlanta at The Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show in May. I have to say job well done.  Casserole dish was a bit small but you made it work.  Our 5 year old son, Dalton, was so excited to meet you and Bobby. The night before, at the hotel, we were honored by meeting your amazing mother and Michael.  Dalton just didn’t understand why Ms. Paula didn’t recongize him since he sees her every day on the TV.  We then headed for Savannah (our 2nd trip) and of course we ate at the restaurant.  It was absolutly delicious. We all fell in love with Savannah,we will be back.
Just one more thing.
You have an amazing family and I really appreciate all ya’ll sacrifice to give us, the fans, everything you do.  Ya’ll are a true inspriation to us all.  Thank you.

By Bethany on June 11 2008

Jamie,

I’ve been studying the menu like a kid studies the JC Penney Christmas catalog!  I’ve decided on fried green tomatoes and a meatloaf sandwich if we are there for lunch, or the buffet if we are there for dinner!  I am drooling already smile I’ll post back and tell you what I thought!

Jamie,
I just finished reading your mama’s new memoir book and thourougly enjoyed learning about your family!  I’m impressed with all of y’alls’ hard work and dedication - it’s truly inspiring!  I’m hoping to visit Savannah soon and go on the Paula Tour - it sounds great!  Also looking forward to dining at The Lady and Sons restaurant. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog - keep up the awesome work and say “Hey” to your mama for me!

By Patti on June 11 2008

Jamie,
Hi, I want to thank you for writing me in January. I kept the letter. I plan to have another recipe in the Wal-Mart associate cookbook in December.  I’ll send you one at the restaurant. I’m coming to Savannah, September 12 - 19 for vacation. I hope you and Bobby are at the restaurant then, because I want to met you both. Is Bobby going to have a blog too?

By Melisa Yerger on June 11 2008

Do you still have the cooking schools you can sign up for?  My son just recently graduated from culinary school and just loves you and your mom.  I thought this would be a great gift for him.

By Cheryl Day on June 12 2008

Jamie, I’m not such a great cook.  All I can make well is meatloaf, stew and goulash.  I tried making your moms fried chicken and it didn’t have much flavor.  Any tips?  Thanks!

By Joanne on June 12 2008

Hi Jamie,
The restaurant looks wonderful- one day I would love to visit!
I would really love to meet Bobby though- is he really single?  I’m sure he gets tons of fan mail, but what is the best way to get in touch with him (and not someone who opens his mail?) If you are able to, I would be happy to give you my email address!
Many thanks!

By Courtney on June 12 2008

Hi!
I just finished reading your new cookbook, “Y’all Come Eat”. I love, love, love it!  I can’t wait to try all of the recipes. It reminds me so much of my family and my “Maw’s” cooking.  I have to disagree with one part though.  Your acknowledgment at the beginning was so sweet....but “GO GATORS”!
See you at the Cocktail Party! smile

By Whitney on June 12 2008

Hey Rob, big parties are just fine (and fun to be in).  Hope you have a great trip.

Cassandra, the buffet changes daily, but we always have mama’s fried chicken, baked chicken, collards, macaroni and cheese, and lima beans. For your dad you may want to visit the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, everyone that I know who has gone has really enjoyed it.

Carolyn, in my eyes mama has always been number one.

Melissa, keep on cookin’ I don’t know if Bobby will have a blog or not.

Cheryl, sorry but due to mom’s busy schedule we don’t do the cooking classes anymore.

Joanne, keep trying, you learn something every time things don’t go right. Persistence is the key.

By Jamie on June 12 2008

Good for you, Jamie!  You might just have fun with this blog thing you’ve begun smile

Quickly scrollin’ through your comments, it doesn’t look like a lot of bloggers have found you yet...I’ll do my best to help ya with that wink

Because I like to talk about y’all behind your backs…

That’s okay, right?  There’s no such thing as bad press!

By Robin (the pensieve one) on June 12 2008

hi jamie:
Our son, wife and daughters will be passing by on our way to Nashville.  The only reason for the detour in Savannnah will be to have lunch at the restaurant.  Since the girls are 4 and 1 year old, I am not sure they can wait if the line is too long.  We are only 6 so we cannot make a reservation and we would be traveling from Puerto Rico.  This would be around july 31.  Is the wait usually too long?  Thanks.

Hey Jamie!
I am a Georgia Dawg too!  I just wanted to share that my 91 year old grandmother has really enjoyed watching your momma on t.v. When I get down there to visit her, I always turn on Food Network.  She has been cooking for her family since she was 13!  Please tell your mom thanks for making my grandmother laugh!
Best wishes for continued success!

Hey Jamie!  First, I have to say that I love you guys.  We are stopping off in Savannah on our way to the beach in Florida on June 21st just to have lunch at Lady & Sons and I was wondering if you, Bobby or your Mother may be in the restaurant that day?  What a special treat that would be!  Anyway, keep up the blogging, it’s so great....but maybe one thing for us single gals??  Bobby’s #!! LOL

Hi Jamie,
I am a big fan of your whole families.  I watch you all the time.
We just found out on Monday my husband is being transfered to Savannah from NJ.  We don’t know a soul in GA and that scares me but I can only hope that the people in Savannah are half as nice as your family and I am sure we will be fine.
We have a one year old son, any recomendations on what to do in Savanahha with a toddler?

Hi!
My mom, sister and I are coming to eat on June 23rd.  It’s my sister’s 21st birthday and she is a huge fan of you Mom(she never misses a show;-) )!  Not sure if this is something that y’all do, but if we could get a picture taken with y’all and my sister, that would totally make her year.  Looking forward to lunch!
Thanks!

Hey Jamie,
I am such a fan of all your family. I record ya’lls shows and watch them at night when I am putting my baby to sleep. My husband, daughter and I were thinking about coming to Savannah in the next couple of weeks and was wondering, are there certain times when you, Bobby or Paula are there? What are some fun things to do while we are there? Also I just wanted to say Jack is just the cutest little boy.  I just love when ya’ll have him on one of the shows and I am sure your mom loves it also.

Thanks so much

Hi Jamie,
Wanted to pass along an experience I had with your “Mango Coconut Rice” recipe. Having had great success and loving it, I knew it would be good to serve with fish to our house guests. Discovering I was missing two main ingredients (rice and unsweetened coconut milk) and no time to go to the store, I started to improvise. I sweetened 2% milk with sugar for the coconut milk (didn’t add the water) and used couscous for the rice. In addition to the mango I added sliced strawberries. What was destined to be a disaster turned out light and refreshing, everyone asked for seconds!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!

My question, why do chefs and cooks use so much salt?

By Diane on June 13 2008

Jamie,

My family and I just returned home from a vacation in Savannah.  We were able to eat at both The Lady and Sons and Uncle Bubba’s.  It was my first real experience with Southern cooking.  Everything was delicious and I would return in a heart beat.

It was a great trip, although I was hoping to meet a Deen.

Thanks for a great experience at the Lady and Bubba’s!

Hi Jamie,

We are going to be there for dinner on June 14.  It will be my 4th trip there, I am bringing my mama, she is a huge Paula Deen fan.  We just love all of you and we hope to meet you guys one day.  I know that all of you are so very busy, but you are an inspiration to everyone.  The only thing missing tomorrow night will be my husband.  He is serving in Iraq, it is our 3rd deployment in 5 yrs.  Keep up the hard work and give your mom and Bobby our best.

Love ya’ll,

Hey Jamie:  My family and I will be visiting your restaurant on 7/14. We are staying in Hilton Head and will be visiting Savannah for the day.  How early is it recommended to be at the restaurant to get our name on the list for lunch? Is there a line before the 9:30 start time? We are very excited about visiting!  Thanks

Hi Jamie,

I went to The Lady & Sons for the first time two weeks ago this Sunday.  I had just moved to Savannah and I took my friends there to thank them for helping me move.  I had heard so much about your restaurant that I had to make sure they got to go.  We barely got in for lunch and luckily were able to get seats at the bar.  I’m just happy they got a chance to experience it...and sitting at the bar’s not bad at all.  It was really entertaining especially Grandma Kim.  I have to say the food was so good and your staff were the best.  And I have to thank you for coming over to take a picture with us.  Now they’ll have something to look back on.  I know they were talking about it for days.

Great food and Excellent staff!!
Thanks so much!

Hi Jamie,

My husband and I were in Savannah this past week and the only place we ate both days was The Lady and Sons.  It was excellent....I’m a true southern girl from TN but currently live in Raleigh, NC and that was the best southern food I’ve had. It was also so exciting for me to meet your brother on Thursday. He was so kind to take a picture with me and sign my Paula 2008 calendar. Here’s what I told my husband as we were on our way home yesterday...."Gas: $800; 2 nights in a cheap hotel: $120; MEETING BOBBY DEEN: PRICELESS!!!” I have been watching your mamma and you and Bobby for years on the Food Network....I love your shows. Can’t wait to come back to Savannah!
Love Y’all!!

Jamie

I live in Parker, South Dakota, it is a small town about 30 miles west of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I have never been to Savanah Ga. I really like your mother’s show.  I watch both of her shows. I also watch your show Road Tasted. Your relationship with your mother kind of reminds me of my relationship with my sons.  I hope someday to visit Savanah and The Lady And Sons Restaurant

By roxy on June 15 2008

Dear Jamie,

I am one of the biggest Deen Family fans around.  I have had the pleasure of meeting you, your brother, Michael, Bubba and of course your wonderful Mama.  I was on one of the very first episodes of Paula’s Party “Loving Spoonfuls” and got to share a cookie with your mom.  Also was fortunate enough to attend two of her cooking school classes before she stopped having them.  I also met you and Bobby at the Atlanta Home Show a few years back.  Since my daughter attends SCAD and my son will also be going there after high school we get to Savannah quite a bit.  The Lady and Son’s and Uncle Bubba’s are always on our list of places we like to eat.  I just want to say that you all are so gracious to your fans and so very kind.  My husband even ran into Michael in Atlanta at the airport in the crown room and he was so very nice.  When our daughter graduates SCAD in 2010 we are thinking of having her party at either The Lady and Son’s or Uncle Bubba’s.  Can you tell me if it’s possible to reserve the back deck at Uncle Bubba’s or what kind of accomadations would we need at the Lady and Son’s for a group of approx. 25?  Also one last question.  Are you and Bobby going to do anymore Road Tasted shows?

Love and best dishes to y’all,
Brenda from Woodstock, GA

Hi Jamie...Just a note to say how much I love you, Bobby and your Mom...your shows are teriffic and truly reflect what great folks you are.  Now that you have a blog...hope to hear more about your beautiful family, Brook, baby Jack and all...Have not been to Savannah yet but hope to plan a trip in the fall when weather cools off...what is the best time of year to visit the Lady for shorter lines?

By Sandra on June 15 2008

Hey There Jamie!

I met you last Fall at the Lady and Sons gift shop. You signed my book and we chatted for a while. You are such a darling! I was there on my honeymoon. We specifically came to Savannah from PA to experience the South that you, Bobby and Paula talk so highly of. We loved it and are coming back over the 4th of July. Cannot wait to eat the restaurant again and also Uncle Bubba’s. Fried pickles at Uncle Bubba’s here I come!!

I just wanted to say that your family is very special. We often will travel if you/your momma are in/near our area. We met Paula, Michael and Bubba at QVC last year as well. You cannot help but smile when you encounter them. smile

Have a fantastic Summer!

By Tiffany on June 15 2008

I just heard on the news that the Lady and Sons is on fire!! What a tragedy!  I live and south Georgia, but have never had the opportunity to eat there.  I have eaten at Uncle Bubba’s, though and it was delicious.  Ya’ll are truly in my thoughts and prayers.
