Sorry I’m late y’all….

it took a few more days to shake off the family vacation than I anticipated.

We spent a beautiful week down in the Bahamas for our birthdays (thank y’all for the well wishes) and Jack Deen had the best time. We stayed at the Atlantis Resort and all Jack says now is “fishy!” He was so cute and Brooke and I are just thankful he slept through the nights. He has a tendency to wake up a few times a night when he’s on the road. Brooke’s youngest brother Scott just graduated from high school and we had him along as his graduation gift. He helped with the baby at night and Brooke and I actually sat down at dinner and chewed our food. First meal I have tasted in two years.

The last post brought a question about the television show Bobby and I did for the Food Network, Road Tasted, and what was the status of new shows. The show airs on Sunday right now and we had an awesome time doing it. If you see the first one (California) and the last one (Nashville) its fun to guess how much weight I gained.

Just kidding.

Don’t guess.

...25 pounds.

BUT Brooke was pregnant and me being the loving, supportive husband that I am, I ate every time she did then we would lay down. Being pregnant is tough I gotta tell ya.

The show took between five to six months of travel a year and I couldn’t be away from Brooke and Jack for five minutes so I came off the road. I had so much fun doing the show with Bobby and that was the only thing that pulled at me. We were traveling and eating and going to baseball parks around the country and making friends and people really liked the show… but.

I waited my whole life to be a daddy and I believe the decision to quit the show and stay home for my family was what momma and daddy tried so hard to teach Bobby and I when we were growing up; family first.

Thanks for keeping up with us, I’m still on Bobby about starting up his own blog. It takes a lot of his time sorting through his marriage proposals. Come on bro.....join the club.

Y’all look for us this Friday morning on Good Morning America…

Talk to y’all next week
-Jamie

Back to the blog.

Hi Jamie,

I was sorry to hear some time ago that you and Bobby were not going to continue doing “Road Tasted”. You guys did a great job with that show, it will be a hard act to follow!! I hope that the opportunity will come for the two of you to develop another show, possibly from Savannah.

Glad you had a great vacation, ours was cancelled due to the fires here in California. We will just have to enjoy the two pack a day skies (per the weatherman) and hot weather, lets hope they can get it in control soon. Keep the firemen in your prayers, they have a tough job!!

Hey Jamie!  Glad you and your family had a great vacation.  I bet Jack had a blast trying to “catch” all the fishies, wait till he’s a little older and you can take him fishing for real.  When I was a kid I used to go fishing with my dad all the time.  My first “meaningful” fish I caught was a northern pike, now THAT was a blast to catch!

Yeah, I saw the commercials for the new Road Tasted.  *sigh* No offense to the Neeleys, I’m sure they are wonderful people but this was yours and Bobby’s show… Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand you wanting to stay home with your family.  But it’s like not having the original actors to your favorite super-hero movie!  Catching my wave?

Yes, Bobby should have his own blog too, after he has that mega-computer.  But do you think he will have any messages to respond to AFTER all the marriage proposals?  LOL Poor guy… Well, tell him he will have at least ONE message that he won’t have to respond a “no thank you” too.  smile

I will be watching GMA this Friday, everyone have a good week at the restaurant!

Hi Jamie,
Happy Belated Birthday! My birthday was last Saturday! (7-5) I really didn’t do much! Because I’m saving money for my vacation in September when I go to Savannah. Plus, I have to work Friday and Sunday! and also I strained my right foot.
I try to watch the re-runs of your TV show “road tasted” when my schedule allows me. You did a great job on it!
I’m glad your family enjoyed our vacation, you deserved it!!
I’ll be watchin Bobby and you on Good Morning America on Friday Morning!

Glad to hear that your vacation was wonderful. I have been busy traveling… first to Central Europe, Orlando, South Carolina, and in just a few short days to Savannah. I’ll be there because my college roommate has returned from active duty in Iraq.

So miss the show. I did try finding a special Czech ‘dumpling’ mentioned on the Houston episode. The shop you went to (along with Bobby’s and your reaction to the savory and the sweet) made me excited to try them. I was very disappointed in the real Czech ‘dumpling.’

No matter how much I miss the show, I am wishing you all the best and the entire Deen gang too.

When I heard the Neely’s were going to do the new season of Road Tasted I just knew in my heart that it was probably a decision that you guys made yourself.  And honestly, what a wonderful decision it was for your family.  It takes a wonderful father to know he needs to be home during the early years.

Your vacation sounds WONDERFUL ... so glad you had a nice time!!

Hi Jamie! This is the little asian girl from the cruise last year. It’s nice to see that you are a blogger now. Happy belated birthday and I’m glad you enjoyed your well deserved vacation. I’ll try to catch the GMA show. Take care and GO GATORS!!!!!!! =)

Hey Jamie,

Welcome back from the vacation, glad to hear you had a good time. I hate to hear that there won’t be anymore new shows but I can totally relate to not wanting to be away from your family. Good for you. I just really enjoy reading your blogs on here, it gives me a little something to look forward to on Mondays.
It would be great if Bobby started one of these up too but I can see why he may not want to, I am sure he has enough proposals to deal with as it is, lol.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next one....

I finally got to go to Savannah this week and the main plan was to eat at the Lady and Sons. On Monday, July 7th, we got the chance and it was beyong our expectations. Only wish we could have seen you all there, but I’m glad you had a wonderful vacation, I know we did! Hope to back late fall.  Thanks for a wonderful experience!!

I’ve known for a while that you gave up doing Road Tasted and why (read it somewhere).  I definitely can’t say I blame you; family first is an excellent motto.  I will miss you and Bobby doing the show though.  I really enjoyed watching the show and hoped that you would come to Boston at some time—for a sports enthusiast, it’s a great city.  New England sports fans are absolutely “fan-atical” (pun intended) about their teams (and everyone loves to hate us because of it); but Fenway Park is an awesome ballpark to visit.  You would both enjoy it.

Thanks, for the heads up on your appearance on GMA this Friday.  Keep us informed if you can - I think all of your fans like to catch your appearances when we can.  And I, too, hope that the FN realizes the Deen Brothers fan base and gives you your own show based in Savannah.

By Kate on July 09 2008

As much as I will miss y’all doing the show, you made the right choice.  It is really nice to see a Daddy put his family first.  Maybe y’all can keep riding the cookbook wave?  My kids love just about everything I cook out of your books.  I love them too.  Don’t tell your mom, but I actually use y’all’s way more than I use hers.

Poor Bobby… no wonder he doesn’t want a blog.  He must be morttified sometimes by what these women throw at him. smile

Have a great week Jamie!  I’ll set my DVR for Friday.

Hey Jamie,
I saw you and the family last Saturday night out at Uncle Bubba’s. We were in Savannah visiting from PA. We ate at Bubba’s 2 nights and the Lady and Sons once. Everything was fantastic!! We chatted with Bubba the first night we were there and then the 2nd night is when we got a glimpse of you all. We didn’t want to interrupt so we just enjoyed our fried pickles and crab stew and then were on our way.

So glad you had a wonderful vacation. The Bahamas is sooo nice. We were on a cruise a few months ago and it was so nice.

You have a great day! smile

So glad you had a nice birthday and a nice vacation.  I know you were reading my mind about Road Tasted!  Sorry I won’t be able to see you and Bobby’s great adventures but I am so happy it is because of family!  I knew I loved you both for a reason!!!!
Love the blogs and love “y’all!!!”
Bobby Deen ....You must have a blog......Ok, so you will have to do some sorting but the people that love you would be out of “our” minds with happiness to hear from you!  Please talk to your brother, Jaime!!!!
Some day, I hope, we can meet in person, but till then, this is great.
Love,
Deb M

Jamie,
It is so nice to get away on vacation, and as busy as the Dean family is, I’m sure it’s difficult. Your shows were great, and glad I recorded quite a few...I as a Mother have always put my 2 girls first. It was extremely nice to hear that your young brother in-law graduated; my daughter just graduated from Reagan High School in SA. And I am sure that he enjoyed the trip immensely. Definitely something he will remember. Take care of the familia, and here is a big Texas HEllo From the Pinon family.

Hey Jaime,

Happy belated birthday to you.  Glad to hear that you and your family had a wonderful vacation.  I just wanted to let you know that being there for your family especially Jack is the best thing you could ever do as a father and husband.  You are building a bond with Jack that no one could ever take away from the both of you.  I lost my husband almost three years ago but when I look at my son I can see so much of my husband in him that it is amazing.  The two of them were so close and spent so much “father and son” time together for which I am so grateful for.  I know my son misses his dad alot but at least he has his happy memories of him to look back on.

I do wish that Food Network would have changed the name of the Neelys new show.  Everyone associates the Road Tasted show with the Deen brothers.  To tell you the truth I felt hurt and taken aback when I saw the previews of “Road Tasted with the Neelys”.  Well I’ll give it a chance but it won’t be the same.

My son, and I visited Savannah as our vacation last month.  We had such a great time.  Our highlight of the trip was getting to meet Bobby.  He was so down to earth and easy to talk to.  We were able to eat at the Lady and Sons twice and had lunch at Uncle Bubba’s during our trip.  Great restaurants.  We can’t wait to make another visit to Savannah.  Hopefully we might have the opportunity to meet you and your mom.

I’ll be sure to watch you and Booby on GMA this Friday.  Have a good week.

Love the show and am anxiously awaiting my first trip to Savannah next Friday, 7-18.  Our only son
Brad, and the love of his life Christy, will be married at The President’s Quarters at 7pm with the wedding dinner at The Lady & Son’s restaurant at 8pm!(I sent a detailed message to your manager!) 29 of us will witness this wonderful occasion and what better way could we welcome our new daughter into the family than by having a delicious dinner at The Lady & Son’s. Brad even questioned me as to which I was more excited, the wedding or eating at your restaurant!
Not only will this be one of the most precious moments in my life, it will truly be one of the most memorable..can’t wait to be in Savannah!

Hey Jamie,
Glad to hear you had some R&R;with your family! Not sure if you can help me but I had the opportunity to sit for a taping of Paula’s Party, “Rollin Red Hot” in NY on April 17th. ( A lotttt of fun) When we left they told us to check the Food Network’s programming to see when it would air.  However, I noticed that in August Paula’s Party is not listed as being programmed and the Neeley have taken her slot on Friday nights? Also, they only list the current and next months programming. Any idea when programming will resume? I also want to apologize for not speaking to you at a book signing. I drove to Princton, NJ to see you and Bobby for the signing and when I met Bobby he stood up to shake my hand and well..the rest was history...I’m not even sure what I said. So forgive my manners but I want to thank you for your time and it was nice to meet you too!! Take care and keep up the great work.

Hey! We think we talked to you in Savannah next to the Colonial Park Cemetery! You were walking your dog. We were on our way to Lady and Sons. We walked away thinking, “That was Jamie Deen.”. When we realized that it could have been you, you (or whoever) were buzzing back into your building. We thought you were very friendly and a pleasant person. If it was not you, then it was a direct reflection on the friendliness of the people in Savannah. If it was you, we appreciate your advice of good places to eat!

Hey, Jamie!  here is a polish proverb for Bobby…

Fish, to taste right, must swim three times—in water, in butter and in wine.

LOL have a good week!

What you said about family is truly beautiful.. Now I’m all teary eyed. July is always a good month for birthdays. smile Six of us on my dad’s side of the family.

I look forward to seeing more of you and Bobby on your mama’s show and other food network specials.

Family first.  I agree.

Well I too am sad about your show but you have to do what is right! Your blog is cool! Thanks for taking time to talk to us! Your mom is such an inspiration! My best friend moved to Winnipeg, Canada because of her husband’s job. This made her homesick for the south- we’re from Alabama. Your mom’s show helped to cheer her up, get her through her pregnancy, and gave us a chance to do something together by watching her show over the phone. My friend is now the host of “Living Winnipeg.” We are planning to have a southern girls party for an episode of the show and I’m going there to cook with her. Our dream is to have your mom join our party- but we know she doesn’t have time for that. It would be great though because she is the ultimate southern girl! Please tell her how much she means to us and that we will be thinking of her when we tape the show! “Best Dishes” from Birmingham, AL. and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada!

Hello Everyone,

Just an FYI...I sent in a question in reference to “Paula’s Party” not listed as being aired on Friday evenings in August.  I recently discovered they have updated their episodes and it looks like the show will be aired on Saturday evenings at 7:00pm starting in August.  Just thought everyone would like to know.

Hello. My daughter is involved in her girl scout troop. We plan a trip to Savannah in August, 2008. I would love to show her some great things in Savannah. Do you have any suggestions? If not in August, then I would love to bring my daughter Kimberlyn - 9; my son Caleb - 7; and my other son Hunter - 6 for a quick trip. Is there a better time of the year to visit? We have all been through a lot this year but a trip to Savannah sounds like a great thing for all 4 of us. Keep loving Brooke and Jack. I know they are your pride and joy. You can see that every time you mention their names. God Bless!

Hi, Jamie grin

I just found your blog via another blog (you know how the “surfing” goes) grin

Anyway, when I saw the commercials for the new “Road Tasted” I wondered, “What about the Deen Brothers?” grin

However, I can totally understand and support your decision.  You will be blessed from it. wink We were raised the same way; “Family First, always”, and I have never regretted any decision I have ever made when I put them first.  grin

I hope to visit Georgia some day, and would love to eat at Lady and Sons.  God bless. grin

By Wendy Darling on July 30 2008

I can accept you not doing Road Tasted now that I know your reasons.  There is no better reason than to be home with your family.  I definitely agree with others that you and Bobby still need your own show, right there in Savannah.
I lived in Roswell, GA for 7 years and am now in Chicago.  I miss the south daily.  The people especially, so I love tuning in and seeing you And Bobby interact with each other and your Mother.  Such a great family, I hope I have the same sort of dynamic with my own children.
So, get your rear back on my TV with that sweet brother of yours!  This 30 year old needs some more down home cooking and great Deen family moments!
Be well.

Hi Jamie! I can totally understand being late. It’s not something to stress out about.

Good luck with everything and hope all your dreams come true. Georgia seems like a cool place.
